III. The Aethyrs
"He (Dee) symbolized the Fourth-Dimensional Universe in
two dimensions as a square surrounded by 30 conecentric circles (the 30
Aethyrs or Aires) whose radii increase in a geometrical proportion"
- Aliester Crowley, Liber Chanokh
It is possible to penetrate or travel to these Aethyrs, using the Astral Body. The highest Aethyr that an individual can penetrate represents his or her current highest level of initiation. Each of the Thirty Aethyrs has Governors, which are personifications of their qualities. Each Aethyr has three Governors, (except for the 30th Aethyr, which has four) The Sigils of the Governors are take from the Elemental Tablets. The process is beyond the scope of this text, but it is detailed by Crowley in Liber Chanokh. For Example, for the 27th Aethyr, ZAA, the Governors are SAZIAMI, MATHVLA, and ORPAMB To "Work" with the Aethyrs, the Temple is opened, a Call is recited,
and then the name of the Governors are vibrated. Crowley gives specific
Temple Openings in Liber
Chanokh, but it is safe to assume that in the heyday of the Golden
Dawn before the turn of the century, if such a procedure was used at all,
it would have been by performing the standard 5=6 opening. On the
other hand, Crowley picked up more than a little of his working knowledge
from Mathers, and Liber Chanokh is so nearly contemporary as to be usable
if one prefers.
